After many years of experience within the field of substance abuse treatment, both in and outside of the Netherlands, I was able to develop a wide range of training programmes, which contributed to the very complex problem of addiction. In this way I experimented during seventeen years with an all-new treatment option of addicts called ‘providing care while receiving it’. This is in practice tantamount to placing the care questioning addict fellow man in the position of care-taker in a unfamiliar culture during the course of his own care pathway. A change of perspective that comes from giving and receiving care at the same time. The result is that participants in this approach experience accelerated recovery, find meaning, and choose to engage actively in their fellow human being. My trainings and consultancy are always custom made to which a period of scanning precedes, taking into consideration what the inviting party requires, what the cultural opportunities and obstacles are, what the objectives are, what the target-group looks like, how one generally learns, and where one is sensitive. The type of training that I can provide in the Netherlands is very different to what is suitable for many other countries in Eastern Europe and Asia, and therefore respect for cultural values and beliefs hereby are essential.providing care
