Mongolia 2023 / Consultancy, Outreach & Training

In May 2023 I was invited to offer three days of training for the Dutch Corrie van der Esch and her team of Sergelt Ood in UlaanBator in Mongolia. This team has been providing outreaches to homeless alcoholics in UlaanBator for many years. During these outreaches, food is distributed, medical and psychological care is provided and investigation takes place who might be open for being admitted in the Reintegration and Rehabilitation program of Sergelt Ood.

Last year, Sergelt Ood realized a Rehabilitation Centre including work projects where those who wish to end their addiction can be taken care of and guided until they are able to take their place independently and addiction-free in Mongolian society.

During these three days of consultation and training we discussed a more detailed interpretation of the program that Sergelt Ood offers, followed by a further explanation of alcoholism and working with self-help groups and finally an introduction to Motivational Interviewing. Finally, we shared and evaluated the approach of this team in one particular situation.
